Here at Tiny Troops Soccer, we know big goals start with little kicks. Every month, we see toddlers and preschoolers who take their first steps into the world of soccer. Over time, we watch them grow and learn beyond just learning how to dribble the ball. This post is the first in our Tiny Trooper Journeys series, where we’ll highlight the growth of longtime players in our program.  Today, we’re excited to share the story of Malcolm, a Tiny Trooper who has blossomed during his time with us.

Malcolm began his Tiny Troops adventure in June of 2022, when he was just 2 years old in our Parent and Me classes. His parents were looking for soccer for toddlers and preschoolers and found our program. Like many new Tiny Troopers, he was hesitant at first. He struggled with self-confidence, felt unsure around new friends, and needed extra encouragement to join activities. He would rotate between his parents on Soccer Island, and we celebrated each time that he completed activities. He was also still developing his coordination, and stepping onto Soccer Island without a parent when he was ready to move into the 3s classes felt like a huge leap.

Fast forward 3 years, and Malcolm is turning 5. He’s continued in Tiny Troops Soccer and is currently part of the 4.5-5-year-old Advanced Skills class. His growth has been incredible. His parents and his coach have watched him blossom into a confident player. Soccer Saturday is one of the highlights of his week. He arrives and runs to meet and talk to his friends. He no longer needs reassurance to get started, and loves playing the games and learning new skills each week. His coordination and skills have greatly improved.

Malcolm also loves to bring Soccer Island home and practice the skills he’s learned with his younger brothers, two of whom are also Tiny Troopers. He will take on the role of the coach and demonstrate how to do the skills as his coach has taught him. He has been known to ask his mom to send his coach videos of him playing the games with his brothers.

The best part of the whole story? Every class ends with Malcolm beaming and smiling, a sign of how much fun he’s having and how far he’s come in his soccer journey.

Malcolm’s journey shows that soccer for toddlers and preschoolers at Tiny Troops Soccer is about much more than soccer. Our classes are designed to help kids build confidence, friendships, and life skills while having fun. Every Tiny Trooper grows at their own pace, and with time, support, and play, they can achieve amazing things, both on and off Soccer Island.
