Kicking Through Change: How Soccer Helps Military Kids Thrive

April is the Month of the Military Child, and here at Tiny Troops Soccer, we’re proud to work with some of the most resilient, adaptable, and strong little ones in the world: our military children.
Being part of a military family means lots of changes. Families receive PCS orders, boxes and bags are packed and moved, starting over in a new home in a new city, and kids have to say goodbye to friends once more. Some children will experience more than once before they even begin their kindergarten year. PCSing is tough on everyone, but for young children, the transition can be confusing and emotionally overwhelming.
That’s where Tiny Troops Soccer comes in.
Tiny Troops Soccer was created with military families in mind. We know how important it is to provide a consistent, welcoming environment where kids can feel a sense of belonging, no matter where they are stationed. When a child joins one of our classes—whether they’re stationed at Kadena AFB in Japan, Fort Novosel in Alabama, or Fort Bragg in North Carolina—they step into a familiar routine. There are friendly coaches, fun activities and games, and the joy of running and playing with others. Even if everything else around them is new, Tiny Troops Soccer stays the same.
Soccer Island is more than just a patch of grass—it’s a space where military children can build confidence, develop motor skills, and learn teamwork. For children dealing with the uncertainty of a parent’s deployment or a recent move, having a positive outlet to burn energy and express themselves is essential.
Our program uses developmentally appropriate activites and games that are fun, but also help Tiny Troopers develop important social, emotional, and gross motor skills. Our coaches bring the positivity, sharing encouraging words, high fives, and fist bumps. They let your Tiny Trooper know that they are strong, capable, and are right where they belong.
With over 30 locations near military bases in the United States and Japan, families are often able to pick up again right where they left off. We love hearing stories of kids who started with us at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina and are still playing after relocating to Schofield Barracks in Hawaii. It’s a reminder that while military life may be full of change, Tiny Troops Soccer can follow wherever you go.
This April, we honor the courage and strength of all military children. To our Tiny Troopers: thank you for inspiring us every day with your adaptability, your energy, and your joy. You’re not just kicking soccer balls—you’re kicking through change like champions.
Happy Month of the Military Child!
