Craft Time: Create a Tiny Troops Soccer Time Capsule

We hope you’ve enjoyed all of our posts featured during 2025’s Month of the Military Child. It’s time to wrap up the Month of the Military Child with a craft post. For military families, goodbyes are part of the journey. Packing up for a new duty station means leaving behind more than just a house—it’s also saying farewell to friends, routines, and those special places that became “home” for a little while. That’s why this post is all about creating a Tiny Troops Soccer Time Capsule- a fun and meaningful way to help your child reflect on their time at your current duty station and carry those memories with them wherever they go in the future.
Military children move more often than most, and it can be tough for little ones to understand all the change. Creating a time capsule is a playful, hands-on activity that helps children to reflect on their time at their current duty station, recognize all the wonderful friends they’ve made, acknowledge their big feelings about moving, and feel excited about what’s to come next. It’s also a great way for families to recognize how much they’ve grown during that time.
Suggested Items to Include in Your Tiny Troops Soccer Time Capsule
- My Favorite Memory: Have your Tiny Trooper draw themselves on Soccer Island doing one of their favorite things
- Our Duty Station: Include a map or postcards of your location.
- My Soccer Island: Add a picture of your child’s class in action on their Soccer Island. Make sure to note the location so you don’t forget!
- Me & My Coach: Snap a photo of your child standing with their coach
- Message from My Coach: Ask your child’s coach to write a short note of encouragement for your Tiny Trooper. Make sure to give your child’s coach plenty of time to complete this task
- My Friends: Add in class photos of your Tiny Trooper or just photos of them with all of the friends they made on Soccer Island
- My New Skills: Together with your Tiny Trooper, sit down and make a list of all the new skills they’ve learned during their time on Soccer Island at their current duty station. Add a photo or two of them in action performing the skills.
Place everything in a shoebox, envelope, or other reusable container. You can decorate it together, seal it up, and plan to open it again once you’re settled at your next duty station.
And no matter where you go, Tiny Troops Soccer is cheering for you and your family. Are you moving to a location that has a Tiny Troops Soccer program? Don’t forget to contact us to help get your player enrolled at the new location!
To our mighty military kids: You leave your mark on every Soccer Island you play on—and in the hearts of every coach and Tiny Trooper you meet. 💜
